SWITCHES AND CROSSINGS

Switches and crossings

The requirements of public transport companies regarding riding comfort, reduction of noise and wear and prevention of electrical interference by trackwork are becoming more and more stringent.

Vibrations and noise emissions are enhanced in the proximity of switches and crossings in comparison with standard tracks. Elastic bedding of the rail is therefore very important in order to level out the variations in the

flexural rigidity of the individual switch components.

Most public transport companies use state of the art elastic bedding and electrical rail insulation.

However, the required results in terms of riding comfort, durability and electrical insulation can only be achieved if this principle is applied consistently, i.e. also to switches and crossings.
